Transvaginal Mesh

Transvaginal Mesh

Women who suffered injuries after undergoing pelvic organ prolapse repair surgery with a transvaginal mesh may have legal recourse.

What is Transvaginal Mesh?

The Transvaginal Mesh is the commonly used term to describe solution for women who experience stress urinary incontinence (SUI) or pelvic organ prolapse (POP).

Minimally invasive or Non-invasive methods of controlling SUI and POP are weight loss, exercise and other lifestyle changes, pelvic floor exercises (also known as Kegel’s exercises), Biofeedback, electrical stimulation, pessaries for vaginal insertion and so on.

Among the surgical methods of controlling or reversing SUI or POP, certain kinds of transvaginal mesh slings consisting of different materials may be used to create a hammock like supporting structure for the urethra.

What You Should Know

According to the FDA, the transvaginal placement of the surgical mesh may put women at a greater risk for POP mesh complications than other surgical options. The agency also claims that with the exposure to greater risk comes no indication of greater clinical benefit in women electing to undergo POP repair surgery transvaginally.
